Description

Do you read obscure history books for fun? Do you agonize over whose story gets told and whose doesn’t? Maybe you have more of an eye for geopolitics or government — our social studies content spans hundreds of topics and interests. As an Editor for the Social Studies product of Newsela, you’ll have the opportunity to marry these passions with your keen eye for editorial standards. This position is first and foremost an experienced editor. You are also a manager of projects, people, and content workstreams at Newsela. Your goal in this role is to curate, edit and create world-class social studies content for K-12 classrooms across the U.S. We value authentic content that creates opportunities for teachers to be culturally responsive, encourages students to think critically about history and explains complex concepts with ease.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

This role allows you to create and curate social studies content that will shape the way students learn history, economics, government and civics around the U.S. Your work will directly contribute to ensuring educators are equipped with the content and tools necessary to deliver representative, culturally responsive instruction, and in turn, help deepen the impact of our mission to make reading accessible and engaging for all learners.

Why We’ll Love You:

You have 8+ years of demonstrated editorial experience focused on content about history, politics, geography, or economics. You may specialize in writing or editing social studies content or maybe a jack-of-all-trades. Either way, your passion for learning and education will help us transform our already enormous archive of social studies content to cover more ground, make it more inclusive, more accurate, and fair. You leverage your attention to detail and editorial judgment to deliver thoughtful, well-balanced content that thoroughly educates K-12 students on social studies topics. Your interpersonal skills are unmatched and you can discuss and debate controversial topics (which abound with Social Studies) with ease, helping us make thoughtful and clear decisions around how we talk about history and politics. In addition to your editorial prowess, you’ve successfully led and managed a small team.
