In Interview with Tarana Suri – Fashion Expert

Hi Tarana, today we would like you to give our community a glimpse into your work as Creative Director of FrontRowBcn working in the fashion industry around the world from New York to Bali to Barcelona.

How did you become a fashion expert and what is your expertise?

Tarana: I started working in fashion at 22 years old and since then have dedicated myself to this business. I consider myself an expert when it comes to fashion entrepreneurship, and fashion design.

I have worked as a senior designer and creative director for 15 years before starting my own design consultancy. I also launched and online course that teaches specialized English vocabulary for Fashion.

Sounds awesome. So, why do you like to work in the field of fashion and what inspires you?

Tarana: I am inspired by the creativity that surrounds this industry. I wanted to work in fashion since I was 9 years old. I come for a textile family- both my grandmothers used to have factories and my dad worked in fabric exports.

With your background, what else are you passionate about outside of work?

Tarana: About so many things! I love to travel and enjoy trying and doing new things any chance I can get.

Let’s learn a bit about your work. What type of projects have you worked on and what is the project you are most proud of?

Tarana: The last 3 years I have been working as a freelance fashion designer as well as running a online design consultancy. Me and my design team work on freelance design projects for international suppliers and brands. We develop mood boards, original designs/prints/graphics & fashion technical specs.

I think my most important project is my course – English for Fashion. This is an idea that I dreamed of and made a reality. About 10 years ago, I wrote the course at a public library and started teaching it in person using a3 boards on the top floor of a local boutique. Fast forward, 10 years later, I have taken this idea to a new level with an online course using dynamic and engaging videos.

Can you uncover some of the tools you are using to create your products?

Tarana: All my clients and designers are remote! I work with Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Zoom, Skype and WhatsApp.

What are your career goals?

Tarana: My goal is to continue to challenge myself and work on new and exciting design projects with clients from all over the world. I also want to develop additional online courses and continue to help all fashion professionals communicate in confidence about all things Fashion.
